Advisers Who Have Seen What Happens When Protection Fails

Three professional advisers in a bright Timișoara office with cream walls and timber bookshelves

Our team brings together backgrounds in Romanian and EU financial regulation, insurance law, and fiduciary advisory — with the shared commitment to put the client's patrimony first.

Small by Design, Accountable by Structure

Riverside Hartwell keeps its advisory team deliberately small. Each client is assigned a named lead adviser who holds the relationship from onboarding through to the delivery of the Protection Blueprint and, where applicable, the ongoing annual review. There are no junior staff-handoffs for substantive client work. The partners review every engagement at the scoping stage and again before any recommendation is finalised. This structure is slower and costlier to operate than a larger firm — and that is precisely the point. We take on fewer clients so that each one receives the full attention the subject demands.

The People Behind Your Protection Plan

Three senior advisers, each with a distinct domain specialism, and a shared fiduciary obligation to every client.

Elena Hartwell — Managing Partner

Twenty years in EU insurance regulation and cross-border succession law. Elena spent eight years at a Luxembourg-based fiduciary before returning to Romania to co-found Riverside Hartwell. She leads all engagements involving Luxembourg wrappers and multi-jurisdictional succession planning, and holds qualifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Radu Ionescu — Senior Adviser, Structures

Radu's background is in Romanian corporate law and family holding architectures. He advises on SRL and SA holding formations, cross-border dividend optimisation, and the governance of family wealth vehicles. Before joining Riverside Hartwell, he spent six years with a Bucharest law firm specialising in private client matters.

Mirela Dragoș — Senior Adviser, Risk

Mirela leads the Risk Review and Stress-Test service and oversees the Capital Reserve Programme for all advisory clients. Her background is in fixed-income portfolio management, and she holds a CFA charter. She joined Riverside Hartwell from an asset management firm in Vienna, bringing cross-border EU market experience to every risk assessment.

“Elena walked us through the succession structure in plain Romanian and plain English — no jargon, no evasion. She flagged a gap in our beneficiary designations that our Bucharest notary had overlooked for three years. The correction took two weeks. I am not sure what the alternative would have cost our children.”

Continuing Professional Obligations

Every member of the Riverside Hartwell advisory team holds current professional indemnity insurance and completes a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development annually — covering EU regulatory changes, Romanian tax law updates, and evolving cross-border succession frameworks. Our client files are maintained under ISO 27001-aligned data management practices, and all client communications are encrypted end-to-end. We do not delegate compliance to a third party: the partner responsible for an engagement is personally accountable for its regulatory correctness.
